
Chinese cellist Martina Qi has been hailed as “profoundly expressive… radiating nuanced
emotion”, establishing her as one of the most compelling young cellists of her generation.
Martina began studying the cello at age nine, quickly demonstrating extraordinary musical talent.
In 2025, she earned a full scholarship to pursue her undergraduate studies at the Colburn
Conservatory of Music, studying under world-renowned cellist Clive Greensmith. Previously,
She was admitted in 2019 to the Affiliated High School of the Central Conservatory of Music in
Beijing, where she studied with Mr. Zhu Mu from 2017.
An accomplished soloist and chamber musician, Martina has been recognized internationally.
She was admitted to the prestigious Morningside Music Bridge program and awarded a full
scholarship to the Texas Cellos Festival. She also received a personal invitation from Martti
Rousi to perform at the Gala 2025 Season Cello Masterclass in Helsinki.

Her competitive accolades include First Prize at the Salzburg Musician Competition and the
Hengqin Cup Cello Competition, as well as recognition at the Isai International Competition.
Martina is an active chamber musician. She has a string quartet called “Tintara String Quartet”,
which reached the finals of the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. The quartet has
performed at esteemed venues across Los Angeles and collaborated with distinguished
musicians. In 2025, Martina participated in an exchange program at the Sibelius Academy in
Helsinki, where the string quartet gave some concerts.

Martina has given solo recitals at venues including Beijing Zhongshan Concert Hall, Zhuhai
Mozart Theatre, Zhuhai Huafa Grand Theatre, Yunnan Grand Theatre, NEC Jordan Hall in
Boston, Colburn’s Thayer Hall, and Zipper Hall in Los Angeles.

She has attended masterclasses with Professor Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt, Orfeo Mandozzi, Richard Aaron,
Fred Sherry and Hans Jørgen Jensen.
